WERKSAcademy #14 | “Finance Workshop for founders and CFOs (foundation level)”
Employees and shareholders expect the founders to have financial knowledge, allocate resources and manage the company on the basis of financial data. But many founders are product enthusiasts and not financial enthusiasts, or they simply don’t bring a financial background to the business. Their interest is not to read the balance sheet, not to recognize a liquidity ratio and not to know how to calculate the return on investment. But finance is just as much an art as science and also a creative process. In this workshop, we will look at the basics of finance: profit and loss statements and their level of profit margins, cash flow and when it is the right time for new capital injections, balance sheets and what the company owns and owes. Barrier-free, jargon-free and filled with entertaining stories of real companies, this workshop gives non-financial founders the financial knowledge and confidence they need for their daily work.
We’ll use a template (Excel) to calculate a profit and loss statement and the impact on the company’s cash flow. We will also look at how reporting to investors should look like and how you can organize the process.
